Creation Day One

Genesis 1:1-5
1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

In the beginning GOD...

Verse one tells us that God created. Only God can create and His creation was from nothing.

Watery Earth

Verse two indicates that the earth was made of water. It is interesting that a  drop of water suspended in space is without form, just as the earth was in its original condition.
Verses 3 and 4 tell us about light. Since light is energy, and energy is governed by the laws of physics, these laws must also have been established on the first day.

And God said that it was

Good!

In verse 5 God calls the first time period "day", the Hebrew word is "Yom". The statements made in this verse clearly indicate a reference to a 24 hour period of time.
